Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim's centuries spurred the Tigers to set the highest-ever One Day International (ODI) score of 329 runs against youthful Pakistan in their first encounter of the three-match ODI series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city Friday, reports UNB.
Bangladesh posted the formidable target of 330 runs for the visitors for the cost of 6 wickets in 50 overs. Apart from their centuries, Tamim-Muhsfiqur pair in their third wicket stand built up a record ODI partnership of 178 runs for Bangladesh in 21.4 overs.
They carried the team total to 245 for 3 in 41.4 overs, before Tamim was caught by Mohammad Rizwan off a Wahab Riaz bowling.
Tamim Iqbal hit his fifth ODI century scoring 132 runs off 135 balls, featuring 15 fours and three sixes.
He completed his century playing 122 balls with a nice four off a Saeed Ajmal delivery, featuring 12 fours and two sixes, at team's 180 for 2 in 34.5 overs.
With the completion of Mushfiqur Rahim's fastest as well as his third ODI century quickfired at 106 runs off 77 balls featuring 13 fours and two sixes, Bangladesh made another record as they hit two centuries in an innings for the first time in their ODI cricket history.
Saeed Ajmal delivered to Mushfiqur Rahim, who hit boundary to complete his century at team's 282 for 3 in 44.4 overs. In the fourth wicket stand, Mushfiqur Rahim pairing with Shakib Al Hasan contributed 50 runs in 5.2 overs, before Mushfiqur was caught by Sarfraz Ahmed off a Wahab Riaz delivery leaving the team total at 295 for 4 in 47.2 overs.
World best all- rounder in all three formats of cricket cum Bangladesh stand-in captain Shakib Al Hasan was trapped lbw at the last ball of the innings by Wahab Riaz after scoring 31 runs off 27 balls with four fours.
Earlier, favoured by coin hosts Bangladesh batted first and the Tigers' opening pair Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar stayed for 48 runs in 13.2 overs, before Soumya Sarkar (20 off 36b, 3X4) fell victim of run -out.
The pair was looking for a quick single off a Wahab Riaz delivery, Tamim managed, but Soumya's bat was on the line by the time the bails came off the groove also stumped by Wahab.
Sabbir Rahman (15), the back to back centurion hero in the World Cup Mahmudullah (5) was dismally bowled out off Rahat Ali at team's score of 67 for 2 in 20 overs while clean finisher Nasir Hossain (not out 3) was the other scorer for Bangladesh.
Left-arm fast bowler Wahab Riaz grabbed four wickets for 59 runs while Rahat Ali took the other wickets for 56 runs, both bowled 10 overs each.
