Uzbekistan made a good start beating India 2-0 in their Group-E match of the AFC Under-23 Champion- ship-2016 Qualifiers at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the city Friday, reports UNB.
After a barren first half, Uzbekistan midfielder Igor Sergeev put his side ahead by a header in the 88th minute utilising a corner kick off midfielder Jamshid Iskanderov.
Vladimir Kozak doubled the margin and sealed the victory in the injury time placing the ball into an empty net after taking control of the ball off a Sergeev pass.
Uzbekistan put more pressure on the opponents with continuous attacks and Kozak had another chance in the 84th minute that was blocked by India defender.
Earlier, India had the first shot on target in the 16th minute when forward Jayesh Dilip Rane's strike from outside the box was saved brilliantly by Uzbek goalkeeper Akmal Tursunbaev.
In the 22nd minute, Indian forward Holicharan Narzary spoiled a golden opportunity to score.
Holicharan Narzary found the Uzbek keeper one-on-one after a free run receiving a through off Abinas Rui Das, but his shot was too weak to convert deceiving the goalie Tursunbaev.
Uzbekistan will play their Group-E second match against hosts Bangladesh Under-23 team on Sunday at the same venue.
