Courtney Walsh is likely to continue as the interim head coach of Bangladesh during the team's upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan, Akram Khan, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB)'s cricket operations chairman, said on Sunday, reports Cricbuzz.

Following the departure of Chandika Hathurusingha, BCB has not found a suitable candidate to take up the head coach's role. Walsh, whose role is that of a bowling coach, was asked to handle those duties during the Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka and he did a good job with Bangladesh reaching the final of the T20 tri-series before going down to India.

"If we cannot find any suitable head coach, those who were in the team management during the last series will continue," Akram Khan told reporters at Mirpur in the city on Sunday. "If we fail to rope in someone as head coach then Walsh is expected to act as the head coach considering his performances in the last series."

Akram also confirmed that Sohel Islam, BCB's game development coach and the current head coach of the Under-17 team, will replace Richard Halsall as the fielding coach. Halsall, who was also the assistant coach, had put down his papers citing family reasons.
