The Leicester City midfielder flew in from England today (Tuesday) and immediately checked into the team hotel, promising fans that the squad would deliver success on home soil.
"In Sha Allah, we'll be successful," Hamza said in a short message to supporters. "On the 9th [of October], we'll be playing against Hong Kong. In sha Allah, everyone will support us."
Bangladesh will face Hong Kong, China, on tomorrow (Thursday) at the National Stadium in the third round of the Asian Cup qualifiers. Hamza is expected to join his teammates for training later on Tuesday. If all goes to plan, he will have the opportunity to train in three full sessions before the match.
Another expatriate player, Shamit Shome, is also set to join the national camp on Tuesday, further bolstering the squad ahead of what is expected to be a hotly contested game. Hamza made his debut for Bangladesh on March 25 this year during the Asian Cup qualifiers against India in Shillong. Since then, he has anchored the Bangladesh midfield in matches against Bhutan, against whom he opened his scoring account, and Singapore. His inclusion in the national team sparked a surge of excitement among fans, with many seeing him as a symbol of a new era for Bangladesh football. Bangladesh currently sit third in Group C, with one point from two games, the same as India. Singapore and Hong Kong lead the group with four points apiece. To keep their qualification hopes alive, Bangladesh must secure a victory tomorrow (Thursday).
