Shakib Al Hasan is the first Bangladesh player to be signed by a county.
Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan once again hogged the headlines as English County side Worcestershire County Cricket Club in a press release today announce the signing of world's number one all rounder as an overseas player for the coming season, reports BSS.
The release added that they were delighted to announce the signing of the world's number one all- rounder, 22 year old Bangladesh Captain. Currently top of the ICC one day all-rounders ranking list (and 4th in the test playing all- rounders ranking list), Shakib will fulfill the County's overseas slot upon completion of the Bangladesh tour to England in mid-July 2010 subject to completion of visa arrangements.
Director of Cricket, Steve Rhodes, says "I have been following his progress for some time and it is clear to me that he is a very good player. His current ICC rankings prove this and I know he is hungry for success. His all round skills will be a great boost to our young team for the business end of the season."
The release further added that Shakib Al Hasan in his comment to Worcestershire Club said, "I am delighted to be joining Worcestershire in 2010. I followed county cricket as a young player growing up and the opportunity to fulfill one of my ambitions of being selected as an overseas player in England is one that excites me greatly. I consider it a great honour to be the first Bangladeshi overseas player in county cricket and can't wait to give my all for the club on the field."
"County cricket has traditionally been the stage for the world's best players and it is a matter of great pride for me to be associated with a club that has an overwhelming history and had been home to so many legendary cricketers. Particularly as an allrounder I am thrilled and inspired to be joining the team once graced by Ian Botham, Imran Khan and Kapil Dev.
"For the devoted fans of Worcestershire I hope to bring joy and success and I eagerly look forward to my time at the county."
