The World Sports Journalist Day along with 152 countries was celebrated across the country in a befitting manner honouring three sports personalities Saturday, reports BSS.
Bangladesh Sports Press Association (BSPA) organised a function in this connection on the Handball Ground in the city.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Biren Sikdar was present as the chief guest at the function.
Three sports personalities-Dilu Khondokar, Khairul Islam Shahin and Aminul Haque Mallick were given award for their contribution to sports journalism to mark the Day.
The state minister gave a crest, bouquet and blazer to each of the recipient.
"Journalists always played a major role in the development work. This type of award and recognition will always inspire the recipients. I am sure this sort of award will also inspire other journalists too. I urge sports journalists to come forward to helping the government for the development of sports in the country", said the minister.
President and general secretary of BSPA M Hasanullah Rana and Sanat Babla also spoke on the occasion.
