GM Ziaur Rahman of Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited emerged unbeaten champion in the Shaheed Sheikh Moni Memorial International Rating Chess Tournament that concluded Friday at the NSC Tower Auditorium Lounge in the city, reports BSS.
Zia earned 8 points to clinch the title.
Three players earned 7.5 points each. Their ties were broken by tie-breaking system. FM Syed Mahfuzur Rahman Emon of Dhaka Mohammedan become runner-up, FM Debaraj Chatterjee of Titas Club Chess Team finished 3rd and FM Mehdi Hasan Parag of Leonine Chess Club of Leonine Chess Club became 4th.
Lama Himal of Nepal became 5th and M Saiful Islam Chowdhury of Sonali Bank Recreation Club finished 6th with 7 points each.
Eight players earned 6.5 points each. Their positions are 7th-IM Abu Sufian Shakil of Dhaka Mohammedan, 8th- Jaiswal Rupesh of Nepal, 9th-Tamal Chakrabarti of India, 10th- FM Mohammad Fahad Rahman of Titas Club, 11th- Abdullah Al-Saif of Golden Sporting Club, 12th-Shafiq Ahmed of Titas Club, 13th M Jamal Uddin of Pritam-Prism Chess and 14th- Delwar Hossain of Sultana Kamal Pathagar.
In the 9th or last round games, Zia drew with Debaraj, Emon beat Fahad, Parag beat Jamal, Shakil drew with Saif, Saiful beat Jaber Al Hamid, Himal beat Thing Bibek, Shafiq drew with Rupesh, Tamal beat Syed Ejaz Hossain and Delwar beat Dewan Shahidul Amin.
