Zia finishes 12th in Villa De Benasque

Bangladesh Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman finished in 12th in the 34th Open International Villa De Benasque chess in tie-breaking system after the 9th and final round matches in Spain Friday, reports UNB.

Ziaur, securing seven points from nine matches, tied from 8th to 17th place, finally became the 12th in tie-breaking system.

In the 9th round match, Ziaur beat International Master Torstein Bae of Norway.

Grandmaster Melkumyan Hrant of Armenia became the champion also in the tie-breaking system as the seven players secured 7.5 points each to be champions. In all, 417 players, including 32 grandmasters, 5 women grandmasters and 35 International Masters, from 38 countries took part in the event.
