Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) General Secretary Khwaja Rahmatullah has expressed his determination to start the Premier Division Hockey League soon amid chaos and controversy over the existing committee led by him, reports UNB.
"We'll start the Premier Division Hockey League within this year," Rahmatullah said while addressing a press conference at DBBL auditorium of Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) in the city Wednesday.
"We're ready to sit with anybody, including Dhaka Mohammedan Director Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan and Federation Vice-President cum Usha KC general secretary Abdur Rashid Sikder, to resolve the controversy and meet their legal demand for the betterment of national hockey," Rahmatullah said.
"If the boycotting teams, led by Mohammedan, don't agree to take part in the ensuing league despite the initiatives, we'll start the league with the remaining teams soon," said the BHF general secretary, who was elected for the hot seat in a federation election held in July 2013.
He said the rival faction did not take part in the league opposing the existing committee from the very beginning terming it illegal.
They also tried to stop the national training camp pursuing some national players, assaulted Pakistani coach of national hockey team and tried to hamper the regular activities of the hockey federation on regular intervals.
Although Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Arif Khan Joy took initiative personally to resolve the problems, some club officials, including Mohammedan, are trying to foil the initiative, he claimed.
Terming the government sports-friendly, Rahmatullah informed that the committee will take the final decision to start the league as per laws after holding a meeting with newly elected BHF president Air Vice Marshal Abu Esrar very soon.
BHF vice-president Abdus Sadek also spoke on the occasion, where a large number of BHF members were present.
