The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) of USA recently published on its website a list of initially selected projects for the "NASA Space Apps Competition". Out of 413 projects in 150 countries of the world, 17 projects of Bangladesh have been initially selected. For the 6th time, under the auspices of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), 17 projects of the winners and runners-up of the "NASA Space Apps Challenge-2020" Bangladesh have been submitted by BASIS, all of which received a preliminary NASA Global Judgment.
In the NASA Global Competition 2020, more than 2,300 projects were submitted from 3,800 teams comprising of 150 countries. NASA initially nominated 413 teams for the Global Judgment.
NASA started this competition with the aim of finding innovative solutions to various global problems by ensuring the participation of everyone including technologists, scientists, designers, artists, academics and entrepreneurs. And to enable Bangladeshis to take part in this competition, BASIS organized a large scale competition called 'NASA Space Apps Challenge-2020 Bangladesh' across 9 cities of Bangladesh. BASIS submitted the projects based on the projects collected from this competition. Furthermore, NASA has taken a plan to involve 5 million students in the Space Apps Challenge through social media as well as 1 lakh students directly in the competition. CSA, CNES, JAXA and ESA are the collaborating organizations in "NASA Space Apps Challenge-2020".
