5th Genius Scholarship launching ceremony held

Centre for Zakat Management (CZM) launched its 5th Genius Scholarship programme for the poor but meritorious undergraduate students of the public universities and medical colleges in the city Thursday. CZM Chairman Niaz Rahim seen.

Centre for Zakat Management (CZM) launched its 5th Genius Scholarship programme for the poor but meritorious undergraduate students of the public universities and medical colleges in the city Thursday, said a press release. CZM Chairman Niaz Rahim, former secretary Dr Mahbubur Rahman, executive director of Shanta Properties Limited Mohammad Mujibur Rahman and Sheikh Bilal Ismail, an eminent scholar from South Africa, were present, among others, in the programme.

A total of 193 students of various institutions including Dhaka University, Jagannath University, Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET), Dhaka Medical College, Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University were awarded Genius Scholarships worth Tk 3,000 per month per head for a period of two years under the programme.  
CZM arranges various motivational and training programmes like career planning, time management, stress management, leadership development, mind control, self development etc to help the students become competitive and worthy citizens of the country.
CZM has been providing the scholarships since 2010 with zakat money paid by various corporate organisations and individuals.  
In order to serve the country a student needs to concentrate not only on study but also on developing other skills, said Niaz Rahim in his speech. He encouraged the students to be involved in social activities which will help to be good leaders in future.
The chairman in his speech said CZM works with the objective of removing poverty from the country by preparing the young generation utilising zakat fund through institutional management of the same.  
The ceremony was chaired by CZM CEO Dr Mohammad Ayub Miah.
After the award giving ceremony, the scholarship recipients attended a motivational lecture from Sheikh Bilal Ismail, a contemporary Muslim scholar based in South Africa.
