Anwar Group has set its target to be the largest manufacturer of cement sheet, a heat-resistant corrugated sheet, in the next 10 years.
Started its production in March last year, Anwar Cement Sheet Ltd, a sister concern of Anwar Group, is now producing around 300 tonnes of cement sheet daily at its plant in Gazaria of Munshiganj, officials said.
"We have planned to install three more units to outpace the existing largest cement sheet producers in Indonesia and Mexico by the next decade," said Manwar Hossain, the group's managing director.
The future plan was disclosed at a function arranged to launch the company's logo and inaugurate its export and formal marketing activities at the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) Saturday.
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed as the chief guest launched the company logo.
Md. Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, industries secretary, was the special guest at the function, which was addressed, among others, by Anwar Hossain, chairman of Anwar Group of Industries, Musaddek Hossain, retired director general of fisheries and livestock ministry, Daniyar Tokmuratov, managing director of United Minerals, Kazakhstan, fiber supplier of Anwar Cement Sheet, Shamsul Huda Khan, managing director of National Bank, and Muneer Ahmed Khan, chairman and creative chief of Unitrend Ltd.

The Anwar cement sheet plant is one of the largest single line cement sheet manufacturing units in the world, Manwar Hossain said.
"The German technology-driven Anwar cement sheet will bring revolutionary changes in the country's poultry sector apart from the residential houses," he said.
"Deaths from heat stroke of poultry will be reduced by upto 90 per cent and growth of birds, reared in sheds of Anwar cement sheet, will increase by around 30 per cent," he added.
Tofail Ahmed said that the Anwar cement sheet will be mostly used in the poultry industry by the general poultry farmers. The industry, which was hit hard by the recent political unrest, will benefit from the cement sheet.
Anwar Hossain, group chairman, said that he took forward his inherited business in different sectors to a new level through hard-working and did many for the general people.
He also hoped that his sons will continue serving the country and its people.
Musaddek Hossain said that the roofs made of Anwar cement sheet will resist 70 per cent of heat that is one of the major causes to result in stroke of poultry.
"Thus, the Anwar cement sheet will reduce a significant amount of extra cost, which is usually made to cope with the temperature, and increase profit."
Since its starting of production in March last year, the company has produced around 40,000 tonnes of cement sheet till December last, an official said. "Our current production is 300 tonnes per day. Such continuation will hit the total production worth 100,000 tonnes this year."
At present, separate companies in Indonesia and Mexico are the largest cement sheet producers; they manufacture 30,000 tonnes annually.
Anwar Cement Sheet Ltd is also working to start export of its cement sheet soon. "We are planning to commence out export to the seven sisters of neighbouring India," Manwar Hossain said.
Around 84 per cent of the sheet is of cement while rest of its portion is other ingredients, Kanchon Saha, DGM (sales and marketing) of Anwar Cement Sheet Ltd, said after the programme.
Price of the cement sheet, having default width of 3.5 feet, is Tk 65 per one foot in length. Comparing the price, Mr Saha showed that price of the cement sheet is 32 per cent lower than that of CI sheet.
Weight of the cement sheet is also around 2.78 per cent higher than that of CI sheet, he added.
