Arrest warrants against three partners of SK Steel issued

A court in Chittagong has issued arrest warrants against three partners of a shipyard at Sitakunda in a cheque bounce case filed by Shahjalal Islami Bank Limited (SJIBL).

The three partners of SK Steel, located at Baro Aulia area under Sonaichhari, are Md Nazim Uddin Chowdhury, 48, AHM Kamal Hossain Chowdhury, 50, and Md Shihab Uddin Chowdhury, 41, according to sources at the SJIBL head office.

The court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Moshiur Rahman Chowdhury in Chittagong issued the arrest warrants Wednesday.

The bank sources said that the case was filed for cheque fraudulence of Tk 530 million.

As part of repayment of loan taken from SJIBL, the three partners issued a chque worth Tk 53,14,27,032.51 on February 20 this year. But after deposition at the bank, the cheque was bounced back on March 10 due to inadequate fund at the account concerned.

On March 13, a legal notice over the matter was served to the accused persons, who received it on March 23 but didn't take necessary steps to repay the loan.

Thereafter on May 6, 2014, SJIBL Jubili Road branch's junior assistant vice president ARM Md Abdul Quader filed the case.

Advocate Ali Asgar Chowdhury and Advocate Aman Akbar Chowdhury appeared for the plaintiff in the court.
