BASIS holding summit in 3 European countries to promote BD ICT sector

Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) is organising 'Europe Bangladesh Technology Summit 2014' in three European countries to promote the country's ICT sector globally.
The summit has already started in Germany from March 10 and, subsequently, it will be held in Denmark and Norway also, said the organisers at a press conference in the city Thursday.
The main objective of the event is to show the potentiality of Bangladesh relating to IT (Information Technology) and IT-enabled services through the summit and it will encourage and attract the European investors to invest in the country.  
The summit will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark from March 17 to 18 and from March 20 to 21 in Oslo, Norway. Some 15 BASIS members have participated in the event of Germany. The event will also be organised in Bangladesh from April 1 to 4.
Speaking on the occasion BASIS President Shameem Ahsan said there will be high-level leadership meetings in this summit where senior policy makers, technology entrepreneurs and industry leaders of Bangladesh will meet potential investors and business partners in Denmark and Norway.
He said the aim of this summit is to further strengthen the bilateral economic and technological ties and policy advocacy between European countries and Bangladesh.
Also, with cooperation and support from both the government and private sectors as per the roadmap and vision, BASIS is determined to extract and earn US$ 1.0 billion as exports within the next 5 years from Europe and the Americas.
Ambassador of the Embassy of Denmark Hanne Fugl Eskjaer said Denmark has been working closely with BASIS for the betterment of the ICT sector of Bangladesh. The Embassy of Denmark will ensure all possible support and assistance to enhance this strong relationship and bilateral ties between the two countries and also increase the investment from Denmark in the ICT sector of Bangladesh.
Grameenphone Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Vivek Sood said BASIS has taken an innovative and timely initiative for the betterment and further development of the ICT sector.
First Secretary, Political and Economic Affairs, Netherlands Embassy to Dhaka, Henrick van Asch van Wijck, Noregian Embassy official Muntasir M Bayzid and Convener of the summit Fahim Mashroor, among others, spoke at the press conference.
Export Promotion Bureau, Agrani Bank Ltd and Grameenphone are supporting the BASIS to organise the event. Innovation Norway, DFSME and Telenor are the co-organisers of this summit.
