\\\'BB Award-2013\\\' to be presented on Aug 20

Bangladesh Bank will confer the 'Bangladesh Bank Award-2013' on both Professor                Dr. Muzaffer Ahmad and Dr. Swadesh Ranjan Bose (posthumous) for their distinctive and remarkable contributions in the fields of development economics on August 20.
Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith will be present at the ceremony as the chief guest. A gold medal, Tk 0.1 million cash and a Bangladesh Bank crest will be handed over to each of the heir of the awarded economists, said a statement.
Both Professor Dr. Muzaffer Ahmad and Dr. Swadesh Ranjan Bose (posthumous) will jointly be awarded through the ceremony scheduled to be held at A.K.N. Ahmed Auditorium, Bangladesh Bank Training Academy at Mirpur in the city on August 20.
A jury board comprised of five prominent economists of the country led by the governor of Bangladesh Bank jointly nominated these two prominent economists for the Award.
It is worth mentioning that Bangladesh Bank Award was conferred on Professor Rehman Sobhan in 2000, Dr. Nurul Islam in 2009 and Professor Dr. Mosharaff Hossain in 2011.
Professor Dr. Muzaffer Ahmad was an intellectual with multi-dimensional knowledge in the greater field of economics and an outstanding researcher. He was whole-heartedly involved in pragmatic and innovative research and other economic and financial issues nationally and internationally. His areas of research interest include industry, education, international economics, public enterprises, human rights, health economics, labor relations, good governance, rural development and poverty reduction, and environmental issues. His works are well-praised in the international economic and financial arena, which have also contributed in the boosting of Bangladesh economy and society. He has been awarded by the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh with the 'Ekushey Padak-2008'.
Dr. Swadesh Ranjan Bose was also an equally prominent economist of the country. Throughout his life-time, Dr. Bose contributed immensely in reducing disparity of asset allocation and other injustices made by the then Pakistani rulers as well as contributed in rebuilding of war-shattered newly independent Bangladesh. His distinctive policy oriented research activities contributed a lot in developing Bangladesh economy and society. He was awarded the gold medal by Bangladesh Economic Association in 2010(posthumously) for his outstanding contributions to the broader area of economics. He has also been awarded 'Independence Day Award-2013' by the Government of Bangladesh.
