BD Investment Summit in Singapore September 4

The second "Bangladesh Investment Summit, Asia" is set to be held in Singapore next week aiming to showcase Bangladesh's tremendous investment potentials and opportunities to the Asian investors.

Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) Bangladesh and The City Bank Limited jointly announced the day-long summit at a press conference at a city hotel Wednesday. Standard Chartered is the headline platinum sponsor and City Bank is the platinum sponsor of the event.

FianaceAsia, in association with AsianInvestor, will organise the summit, which is scheduled to be held on September 4, 2014 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Singapore. BRAC EPL, LankaBangla, LR Global and Eastern Bank Ltd are silver sponsors while DFDL is the bronze sponsor for this summit.

This summit, officials said, aims to divulge the trade and investment opportunities for the Asia-based asset managers, private banks, family offices, private equity firms and corporations in different emerging sectors of Bangladesh.

It will actually work as a platform of exchanging the prospective information of Bangladesh with the Asian investors, enhancing their confidence to invest in the Bangladesh market having a lot of potentials, they said.

Earlier, the first Bangladesh Investment Summit was held in Singapore in 2012 targeting the investors in Asia and another summit (first of its kind in Europe) was held in UK in 2013 targeting the European investors.

Mr McCabe said, "Since independence, Bangladesh demonstrated rapid progress and rightly so was identified as one of the 'next 11 economies'. We believe, just like the previous summits, this year's summit will also unfold the interesting story of Bangladesh, its sustained growth and immense opportunities to potential investors and the international financial sector in general."

As the lead sponsor of this summit since inception, "we are proud to showcase Bangladesh as an exciting investment destination," he said.

Mr Hussain said, "This is the third time City Bank is sponsoring Bangladesh Investment Summit. Such events promote Bangladesh in the international business community. This is our chance to change the perception of the country by showcasing tremendous achievements of Bangladesh in recent times."

Some panel discussions will take place at the summit on different topics that include: Mapping Economic Growth, Risks and the Regulatory Landscape, Bangladesh's Journey to Diversify its Export and Outsourcing Sector, Developments in Bangladesh's Debt Capital Market Arena, Mapping Infrastructure Projects and Harnessing Financing, and Where Does Bangladesh Feature in Your Investment Allocation Strategy?

Officials expect that nearly 300 attendees comprising of government representatives (including Board of Investment, securities regulator and PPP Office), multilateral financiers, rating agencies, portfolio managers, global asset managers, institutional investors, private banks, principals from private equity and hedge funds, CEOs, MDs, CFOs from Bangladesh-based corporate houses, and CEOs, MDs, CIOs and heads of research from the Asia-based securities and brokerage houses.
