A high-level delegation from Bangladesh, led by Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), arrived in South Korea on Monday on a five-day visit focused on attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) and strengthening institutional cooperation.
The visit aims to tap into South Korea's technological expertise and robust investment climate to support Bangladesh's rapidly expanding economy, says a press statement.
The delegation includes senior officials from key government bodies, such as the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA), Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA), and the National Board of Revenue (NBR). The mission is supported by technical assistance from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank Group.
Between October 21 and 23, the team will engage in Government-to-Business (G2B) meetings with major Korean industrial groups, highlighting investment opportunities across Bangladesh's electronics, shipbuilding, power generation, textiles, chemical, and heavy construction sectors.
In addition to investor engagement, the delegation will hold Government-to-Government (G2G) discussions, including a meeting with the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MoTIE) of Korea. The talks will focus on enhancing bilateral economic cooperation, including progress on the proposed Korea-Bangladesh Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and recent trade policy developments.
A key event during the visit will be the 'Gateway to Growth: Invest in Bangladesh' seminar on October 21 in Seoul, co-hosted by BIDA and the Bangladesh Embassy in Seoul in partnership with the Federation of Korean Industries (FKI).
The delegation will also participate in institutional capacity-building activities facilitated by the IFC, designed to strengthen BIDA's ability to promote investment and support investor facilitation effectively.
Commenting on the visit, Nahian Rahman Rochi, Head of Business Development at BIDA, said, "South Korea is one of Bangladesh's most valued economic partners. We aim to present Bangladesh as a strategic manufacturing and export hub for Korean investors. Our dual focus is on forging partnerships with leading high-tech companies and advancing high-level policy dialogue with MoTIE of Korea to enhance market access and economic integration."
