Beacon Pharma, Power Grid move above floor on post-polls excitement

Beacon Pharmaceuticals on Wednesday topped the chart of the most-traded stocks after remaining stuck at the floor price for 10 months, joining the club of large-cap stocks that have experienced post-polls price appreciations.
It saw the second highest price rise on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE).
Another market leader, Power Grid Company of Bangladesh had a marginal gain on the bourse, crossing the floor price after 15 months.
The post-polls upbeat market has helped some other market leaders, including Square Pharmaceuticals, to leave the floor.
Riding on investors' increased participation, Beacon Pharmaceuticals also became the number three turnover leader on Wednesday.
The company played the biggest role in pulling the DSE broad index that continued to move up for the sixth consecutive session. The index rose 14 points to close at 6346 points.
Of the 14 points, 11.3 points were added by Beacon Pharmaceuticals with an 8.73 per cent jump in the market value.
Its shares traded at the floor price between April 27, 2023 and January 16 this year.
As a number one turnover leader on Wednesday, the company featured a turnover of Tk 464 million.
This blue chip company endured a 45 per cent year-on-year decline in profit to Tk 509 million for FY23 because of a significant rise in operating costs.
The state-run Power Grid Company remained stuck at the floor price of Tk 52.40 between October 10, 2022 and January 16 this year on the DSE.
On Wednesday, the company gained 1.53 per cent on the stock exchange to Tk 53.20 per share.
It was one of the top 10 companies that played a pivotal role in boosting the broad index on the premier bourse. The company posted a turnover of Tk 287 million.
As the country's sole authority to ensure power transmission, Power Grid experienced a record loss of Tk 6.26 billion in FY23 despite having an operating profit of Tk 9.5 billion in the year.
The income turned negative mainly because of a foreign exchange transaction loss worth Tk 12.75 billion against foreign debts received for expanding power coverage.
