BEPZA starts paying dues to closed factory workers

Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) has started paying salary arrears and other benefits to the workers of Scandex Knitwear Ltd. (Unit 2), a closed factory at Adamjee EPZ, reports BSS.
Some 100 factory workers were given their dues at a programme organised by Adamjee EPZ on Tuesday, said a press release.
Moshiuddin Bin Mesbah, executive director of Adamjee EPZ, handed over the cheques to the workers at the programme while the dues of remaining workers will be cleared in phases.
Scandex Knitwear Ltd. has been operating their business in Adamjee EPZ since 2009, but the factory faced a huge setback after the death of its managing director in 2022.
As the factory could no longer continue its operation, the management declared lay-off. Later, they announced the closure of the factory but did not clear the dues of
977 workers and employees immediately.
BEPZA sold the factory at auction. After a long process, BEPZA started paying the dues to the workers and employees of the factory.
The workers of Scandex Knitwear got overwhelmed while receiving their arrears on the first day of New Year after nearly two years of its closure.
