Beximco tops turnover chart in a volatile mkt

Dhaka bourse closed the Monday's session with a marginal rise in broad index amid day-long volatility as many investors booked profits while others opted for observing the market's movement.

On the day, major sectors performed mixed on Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and investors' participation declined marginally compared to previous session.

The market opened the day's session positively and soon later the DSE broad index DSEX failed to sustain.

After 40 minutes, a strong recovery stance was observed and the DSEX overcame the initial loss.

During midsession, the broad index again nosedived and initially managed to close the session with a marginal rise.

At the end of the session, the DSEX settled at 7205.82 with a rise of 0.19 per cent or 14.01 points.

The shariah based index DSES advanced 0.20 per cent or 3.27 points to close at 1570.08.

DS30 index comprising blue chip securities closed at 2661.41 with a rise of 0.21 per cent or 5.60 points.

Of 374 issues traded, 174 advanced, 163 declined and 37 were unchanged.

The premier bourse DSE posted a turnover of Tk 20.33 billion which was 13.33 per cent less than the turnover of previous session.

Of total turnover, Tk 229 million came from transactions executed in block board.

Of major sector which witnessed price correction, bank declined 0.1 per cent, financial institutions 0.2 per cent, fuel & power 0.5 per cent, and telecommunication 0.2 per cent.

Of the sectors which saw price appreciation, engineering advanced 0.5 per cent, general insurance 3.1 per cent, and textile 2.3 per cent.

Investors' participation concentrated mostly on general insurance sector which grabbed 13.9 per cent of market turnover followed by textile 11.7 per cent, financial institutions 10.6 per cent, pharmaceuticals & chemicals 9.1 per cent and miscellaneous 9.0 per cent.

Beximco topped the scrip wise turnover chart with a value of Tk 1.23 billion followed by LafargeHolcim Bangladesh Tk 742 million, Rupali Insurance Company Tk 439 million, Beximco Pharmaceuticals Tk 410 million and Alif Manufacturing Company Tk 403 million.

Of large cap companies which lost prices, the share price of Grameenphone declined 0.42 per cent, British American Tobacco Bangladesh Company 0.12 per cent, Square Pharmaceuticals 0.62 per cent, and United Power Generation & Distribution Company 0.20 per cent.

Of large cap companies which witnessed price appreciation, the share price of Walton Hi-Tech Industries advanced 0.53 per cent, Beximco advanced 1.41 per cent, and Robi Axiata 0.48 per cent.

Far Chemicals Industries was the number one gainer with a rise of 10 per cent to close at Tk 15.40 each.

Bangladesh Monospool Paper Manufacturing Company was the worst loser after declining 8.74 per cent or Tk 18.30 to close at Tk 191.20 each.

CASPI, benchmark index of Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), advanced 0.22 per cent or 47.41 points to close at 21030.23 points.

Of 325 issues traded, 156 advanced, 131 declined and 38 were unchanged and the port-city bourse CSE posted a turnover of Tk 757.69 million on Monday.
