‘BKMEA gives jobs to over 10m in last 10 years’

The association taking many projects to create employment for more, says its president

CHATTOGRAM, Nov 21: The Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) provided jobs to more than 10 million (1.0 crore) people of the country in the last one year.

Besides, the association is taking many projects to create employment for more people, said its President of A K M Selim Osman while addressing as the chief guest a views exchanging meeting with the association leaders of Chattogram.

The meeting was held at the Boat Club in the port city recently. Chaired by BKMEA's third vice president (VP) Seraj Jamil, a good number of members of the association's newly-elected central committee attended the programme.

"BKMEA provided jobs to more than one crore people of the country in last one year. BKMEA is taking many projects to create employment for the people," Selim Osman said.

He said, "Chattogram not only the port city of Bangladesh but also the commercial hub and the most important city of the country."

He also said that the BKMEA will build a permanent office of the association in Chattogram. "BKMEA's central committee has already allocated Tk 70 million (Tk 7.0 crore) to build its new office in the port city," he informed.

He expressed the hope that the new committee will initiate steps with the aim to solving crisis with banking sector, the Ministry of Finance of Bangladesh and the National Board of Revenue (NBR).

First vice president Mohammed Hatem, second vice president Amol Poddar, vice president Morshed Sarwar Shohel and President of Naryanganj Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) Khaled Hyder Khan Kajol were also present, among others, and spoke.

Besides, director of Clifton Group M D M Mohiuddin Chowdhury, directors of Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) Anjan Shekhor Das, Akter Hossain Apurba, former director of BKMEA Shawakat Osman, ASP of Industrial Police Md Kamrul Hasan, BKMEA directors Rajib Das Sujoy, Mirja Mohammed Akber Ali, Ahamed Nur Foisal, Fazlul Kader Chowdhury, Shahid Uddin Ahamed Azad and director of BGMEA Omar Faruk were also present.
