Dhaka stocks ended Tuesday's session marginally lower after a sharp rise of previous session reflecting the investors' cautious attitude, the insiders said.
The price indices showed minor volatility during the trading hours at the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and at the end of the day, the DSE benchmark index --DSEX--shed 0.31 per cent or 14.07 points to close at 4401.88 points.
"The market went up by 69 points in the previous session. So, a loss of 14 pints witnessed in next session cannot be termed as major decline. Moreover, the investors will observe the situation till the proposed budgetary measures are finalised," said a top broker.
On Tuesday, the policy makers of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) held a meeting with the Finance Minister AMA Muhith.
The securities regulator sat with the minister with a view to pursue him for reviewing some budget proposals considering the growth of the market.
Both the bourses will also sit with the finance minister tomorrow (June 12) so that the government reviews the budget proposals which already drew investors' negative reaction.
On Tuesday, the DSE 30 lost 0.28 per cent or 4.59 points to close at 1624.45 points whereas the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) shed 0.24 per cent or 2.52 points to close at1012.90 points.
Among 295 traded issues, 103 advanced, 161 declined and the remaining 31 remained unchanged.
The turnover value on the DSE stood at Tk 4.52 billion which was Tk 4.20 billion in the previous session.
According to some top brokers, a selling pressure was observed in Textile, Cement and NBFI sector.
However, the Engineering and Pharmaceutical sectors supported the market with a gain of 1.2 per cent and 1.4 per cent respectively.
The Lafarge Surma Cement topped the chart of turnover leaders with a value of Tk 548.10 million followed by Square Pharmaceutical, Eastern Housing, GPH Ispat, Grameenphone and Appolo Ispat.
The day's top gainers were Appolo Ispat, Kohinoor Chemical, Summit Power and Navana CNG, whereas the Midas Finance was the worst performer with a loss of 7.42 per cent.
On Tuesday, the turnover value stood at Tk 300 million on the port city bourse--Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE).
The CSE's benchmark index--CASPI--lost 40.37 points to close at 13563.09 points.
