BRAC Bank Limited reiterated its strong commitment to values-based banking as the bank along with 60 other members of Global Alliance for Banking on Values (GABV) celebrated 'Banking on Values Day' across the globe, said a statement.

Every year GABV observes 'Banking on Values Day' on November 7. This year's theme is 'I Choose #BankingOnValues. Because I Care about Climate, Because I Care about Equality and Because I Care about Migrants.

This year's observance carries special significance as the alliance marks its 10th founding anniversary. It is a global movement that has emerged to use financial services as a tool for social good and imbue a positive perception to the industry - change the way we see the banking sector.

The GABV, founded in 2009, is a network of banking leaders from around the world committed to advancing positive change in the banking sector. BRAC Bank is one of the founding members of GABV and the only member to the global forum from Bangladesh.

Its collective goal is to inspire an ethical standard in the banking system so that it is more transparent, supports economic, social and environmental sustainability and is composed of a diverse range of banking institutions serving the real economy.

GABV members have one shared mission to use finance to deliver sustainable economic, social and environmental development, with a focus on helping individuals fulfill their potential and build stronger communities.

In terms of making a difference, our focus has always been in doing different kinds of business the right way with the right partner, be it with an individual or an institution. We do business with entities that use fewer environmentally harmful or resource-depleting raw materials. Every kind of financing relating to small or medium lending or retail financing that we do have values-based lens attached to it.

On the occasion, GABV has launched a global photo-contest to highlight this year's theme. The contest is open to all. Three winners will get Fairphone 3, the world's most environmental friendly mobile phone.

On the auspicious occasion, BRAC Bank Managing Director & CEO Selim R. F. Hussain said, "As a member of GABV, BRAC Bank believes in the philosophy of people, planet and prosperity and works towards making the environment healthier and planet more habitable for all through its responsible financing.”
