Branding Bangladesh Trade Show in South Africa 2014 will kick off on June 3 in Cape Town with a view to expanding business in that country.
The three-day exposition will be organised by Branding Bangladesh under the auspices of ministry of foreign affairs (MoFA), High Commission of Bangladesh in Pretoria and Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) in association with Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
This was disclosed at a press conference on the trade show at the National Press Club in the city Wednesday.
MoFA director general (Africa Wing) Noor-e-Helal Saifur Rahman was present as the chief guest at the press conference while MoFA director (Africa Wing) Md Shafiqur Rahman was the special guest. BGMEA vice president SM Mannan (Kochi) was the guest of honour.
Noor-e-Helal Saifur Rahman said: "South Africa will open its mission in Bangladesh this year. As part of our trade expansion a delegation will visit Morocco and Nigeria in the second week of this month to explore jute and jute goods market."
"Another trade team will visit some other African countries for business expansion," he added.
BGMEA vice president SM Mannan (Kochi) said: "South Africa is a potential market for Bangladesh. We have friendly relationship with the country, but the bilateral business between the two countries is not yet up to the expected level."
"We exported readymade garments worth US$ 57.66 million to South Africa which was only 0.27 per cent of the total RMG export of the fiscal year (FY) 2012-13. We want to occupy a major portion of RMG market in that country. This trade show will play a significant role in expanding the market there."
