Starlink internet service was launched at a press conference in Dhaka recently.

Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL) has been designated as the official reseller of Starlink internet services in the country.

The announcement was made during a joint press conference held in Dhaka recently to mark the official launch of Starlink services in Bangladesh, says a press statement.

Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, confirmed BSCL's appointment in response to a question from the media.

With the launch of Starlink, high-speed internet will now reach remote, underserved, and marginalised areas of the country, enabling progress in education, healthcare, e-commerce, remote employment, and digital entrepreneurship.

In her written remarks, Lauren Dreyer of SpaceX praised Bangladesh's leadership, stating, "Bangladesh has demonstrated how bold and visionary leadership can turn technological potential into reality. Talks began in February, approval came in May, and today the service is live -- such rapid progress is rare globally."

She added, "Starlink is not just about technology -- it is a vehicle of transformation. It will enhance rural education, telemedicine, remote work, and digital economic development."

Starlink will operate in collaboration with BSCL and other local partners in the country.

Also present at the press conference were Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser; Zahidul Islam, Secretary (In-Charge), Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology; Shish Hayder Chowdhury, Secretary, ICT Division; Major General (Retd.) Md. Emdad Ul Bari, Chairman of BTRC; Dr. Imadur Rahman, Managing Director of BSCL; and Md. Aslam Hossain, Managing Director of Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC (BSCCPLC).
