BSEC gets 3 new commissioners

The government appointed three commissioners to the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) 10 days after the reappointment of its chairman for the second term.

Of the three commissioners, Shaikh Shamsuddin Ahmed, a professor of finance at the University of Dhaka, has been reappointed.

ATM Tariquzzaman will join the BSEC as commissioner, leaving his position as managing director of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE). The third candidate is Mohammed Mohsin, former DG of the Bangladesh Karmachari Kallyan Board.

The Ministry of Finance (MoF) issued a gazette notification in this regard on Wednesday.

They have been appointed as per the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission Act, 1993, for a four-year term commencing from May 20 this year or the date of assumption of duties, according to the circular.

Tariquzzaman is a former executive director of the securities regulator. He resigned from the position in September last year and joined the DSE as managing director.

On April 28 this year, Prof Shibli Rubayat-Ul Islam was reappointed as chairman of the securities regulator for another term. His current tenure will expire on May 17.

The commission of the BSEC is comprised of the chairman and four commissioners.

Another commissioner, Dr Rumana Islam, law professor at the DU, joined the BSEC in May 2022. The first ever female commissioner, she still has two more years to serve.
