BSEC meeting with Victoria University Prof held

The securities regulator held a discussion meeting with Dr. Tony Van Zijl, a Professor at the Business School of Victoria University, Wellington, on development of the country's capital market, officials said.

The meeting was held Tuesday at the office of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC).

Four BSEC commissioners--Prof Helal Uddin Nizami, Md. Amzad Hossain, Arif Khan and A Salam Sikder--and all BSEC executive directors and directors attended the discussion chaired by BSEC chairman Prof M Khairul Hossain.

The BSEC officials said current affairs of the country's capital market were discussed at Tuesday's meeting.

The BSEC policymakers put light on their steps taken for the development of the country's capital market and economy as well.

Prof Tony was requested to speak on as to how the country's capital market can be more developed and vibrant.

In this regard, Prof Tony described the experience of New Zealand.

"Mr. Tony has also stressed on as to how the cooperation between Victoria University and the BSEC can be enhanced for the development of the Bangladesh's capital market," a BSEC official said.

At the discussion meeting, Mohammad Saifur Rahman, a BSEC executive director, made a presentation on the financial market of Bangladesh.
