BSEC to hold public hearings on securities issues

The securities regulator has planned to hold public hearing on different issues of capital market including investment safety.
The officials of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) said the hearing will be held once in each quarter.
Initially, the hearing will be held virtually considering the situation created by COVID-19.
"Different commissions hold public hearing. The BSEC will also hold public hearing with a view to consider suggestions that will come from different stakeholders and general investors," said Mohammad Rezaul Karim, a BSEC director.
Of different commissions, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) holds public hearing in different districts as part its correction prevention activities.
Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) also holds public hearing to discuss different proposals including fixation of power tariffs.
The securities regulator is going to hold such hearing for the first time after the incumbent commission led by Prof. Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam took the charge of the stock market regulatory body-BSEC.
The BSEC director Mr. Karim said the securities regulator will try to evaluate suggestions that will be accumulated from public hearing.
"Public opinions will be placed before the commission. The commission will try to take into account the opinions in case of taking different decisions," said Mr. Karim, also a BSEC spokesperson.
He said the regulator will hold the first public hearing via zoom taking into account the COVID period.
"The public hearing will be held in the multipurpose hall at the BSEC office when the situation will be normal," said the BSEC spokesperson Mr. Karim.
He said stakeholders and general investors willing to attend the public hearing via zoom must be registered.
Asked about the topic of first public hearing, Mr. Karim said the securities regulator will set the first topic considering investors' interest.
"Capital market is a vast area. Public hearing will be held on different issues gradually," Mr Karim added.
