Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI), a UK-based global professional body in securities and investment industry, has moved to impart its securities-related courses to individuals in Bangladesh.

In this connection, the CISI partnered with Pearl Institute of Financial Markets (PiFM), an India-based training institute in the sector, recently.

"The CISI is constantly looking to raise the standards of the financial services industry globally, and this move with the PiFM is a step towards helping us achieve our goal," Kevin Moore, Director, Global Business Development for CISI, told the FE in an interview at a city hotel recently.

Mr Moore was in Dhaka to see the CISI operations here and meet some key stakeholders in the local securities industry.

Citing the need for such professional courses in the growing securities market like Bangladesh, Mr Moore said that it will notably contribute to have a stronger market.

The institute offers a wide range of qualifications to individuals to achieve core competence and foster strong careers in capital market, investment banking, wealth management, investment management, investment operations and Islamic finance, Mr Moore said.

Its "Capital Markets Programme" qualification is a wide ranging group of exams developed for practitioners in the capital market wholesale sector advising and dealing in securities and derivatives.

The qualification of "Risk in Financial Services" provides candidates with a broad understanding of the key risks that arise within financial services.

The "Investment Operations Certificate" was developed to enhance knowledge and skills of staffs working in administration and operations areas of the financial services industry.

"International Certificate in Wealth and Investment Management" meets the needs of those firms, who want to ensure that their staff are able to provide high-quality advice; the qualification ensure that wealth managers and advisers understand the range of assets and investment products that are available in the market.

"Combating Financial Crime" thoroughly tackles financial crime agenda, a global view of transnational crime and illustrates practical defences including the UK Bribery Act 2010.

"Islamic Finance Qualification" of CISI is a ground-breaking qualification that covers Islamic finance from both a technical and a Shariah perspective, providing the first international benchmark in the area of Islamic finance.

The institute's another qualification, Certificate in Corporate Finance, develops the essential foundation knowledge required to work in the corporate finance industry.

The syllabus, Mr Moore said, explores corporate finance legislation, regulation and techniques and provides you with an understanding of how corporate finance transactions are developed to meet client needs.

Formed in 1992 by London Stock Exchange practitioners, it already set almost 37,000 examinations in 74 countries, covering a range of vocational qualifications.

Currently, the institute is running its operations in Bangladesh from its office in Sri Lanka.
