In pursuit of enhanced electronic payment usage by banks and clients across the country, Citibank, N.A. has conducted a workshop at Mymensingh recently.
The workshop is third of its kind in continuation of Citi's nation-wide electronic payment roadshow. The roadshow was inaugurated on 26th August, 2014 in Dhaka followed by its first upcountry workshop in Comilla on 20th September, 2014.
Like previous events, this event was also attended by senior officials of Bangladesh Bank, representatives of Citi's clients and their dealers in the region and banks having branches in the vicinity/district. Citi provided informative illustrations and insights on Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) Credit receipt and origination, Direct Debit receipt and origination and explained benefits of each type of transactions for various parties. The event turned out to be a useful forum for the local business, houses and banks to discuss ongoing issues and opportunities in the context of the local financial market. It was highlighted in the event that a large savings can be contributed to the economy if the corporate houses across the country begin to pay through EFT.
Addressing the group of 50 participants from different banks and corporate houses, Mr. Moinul Huq, Citi's Head of Treasury & Trade Solutions in Bangladesh said, "Citi has been the frontrunner in the Bangladesh Electronic Fund Transfer Network (BEFTN) landscape since its inception. Such events are designed to encourage clients and banks to increase the usage of the Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) channel. Citi in Bangladesh is one of the leading banks in digitizing their clients' payment and collection process and have been actively working with Bangladesh Bank to achieve right level of confidence of the relevant stakeholders in this emerging electronic payment system."
"We will continue to influence all relevant stakeholders to switch from paper based payments to digital payments, which would also promote the green banking initiatives of the Central Bank. As one of the leading digital banks, we offer simple but efficient payment tools to support our clients' electronic payment needs," said Mohammad Akher, Citi's Head of Cash Management in Bangladesh.
Citi is expecting to expand this series of events in other parts of the country and eventually would consolidate feedback from all corners to put country's payment system on advanced trajectory.
