The CNG refueling station owners will meet the authorities concerned of the government this week to discuss the progress in implementing their five-point demands.

President of Bangladesh CNG Filling Station and Conversion Workshop Owners' Association Zakir Hossain Nayan told the FE Friday that they will meet the minister concerned to know about the progress of their demands.

He also said if their demands are not realised by August 24, they will definitely go for non-stop countrywide strike.

"We will meet the minister to review the progress of our demands. We will go for non-stop countrywide strike, if our demands are not fulfilled by August 24."

Earlier the association had announced to go for strike from July 24 to fulfill their demands.

Later they withheld their programme till August 24 following a meeting with state minister for power, energy and mineral resources Nasrul Hamid Bipu on June 25, and assurance of considering their demands by August 24.

The association leader said the state minister assured them of considering their demands and sending a proposal to the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) to hold a public hearing on the demands.

Asked whether there is any progress regarding their demands in line with the government's assurance he said not a single one of their demands is fulfilled till now.

"If our demands are not realised within the deadline, we will give some more days to the government to consider our plea. If the demands still remain unfulfilled, we will go for non-stop countrywide strike," he added.

Their demands are: raising CNG (compressed natural gas) price when power tariff is raised, enhancing station owners' commission margin to Tk 2.98 from Tk 0.12 on sale of per cubic metre of CNG, issuing 15 days' gas bill instead of monthly bill by gas companies, putting forward the issue of new gas connection to 54 CNG refueling stations to a high-level committee, and taking measures to install EVC meters at CNG stations.
