Shareholders of Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) have stressed on dividend disbursement, income diversification and publication of quarterly report at the 20th annual general meeting (AGM) held Thursday at the port city.
The participants said the shareholders made the demand of dividend disbursement as the company has already been turned into corporate entity.
In this regard, the CSE's incumbent board told the shareholders that the company's net asset value (NAV) will reduce if dividend is disbursed in this year.
"We have told the board to diversify the exchange's income by introducing new products along with reducing expenditures. Another demand was to publish quarterly report which is regularly published by listed companies," said a CSE shareholder.
When asked, CSE Chairman Dr. Muhammad Abdul Mazid said the AGM was completed very peacefully as the shareholders realised the ongoing situation of the capital market on which the exchange's income is dependent.
"One year is not enough to bring effective changes in a demutualised stock exchange. The exchange is working transparently," said CSE chairman Mr. Mazid.
He has also stressed on sufficient regulatory support to bring changes in the activities of the stock exchange.
The CSE Board of directors such as Prof. Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, Professor Dr. Mohammad Ayub Islam, Dr. Moinul Islam Mahmud, Mr. Showkat Hossain, Mr. Nasir Uddin Chowdhury, Mr. Mirza Salman Ispahani, Mr. Mohammad Khairul Anam Chowdhury, Mr. Mohammed Mohiuddin, Mr. Md. Shamsul Islam, Managing Director Mr. Wali-ul-Maroof Matin, and Company Secretary Mr. Rajib Saha were present at the AGM.
Among former CSE Presidents, Al-Maruf Khan attended the AGM.
