The DSE Brokers Association of Bangladesh (DBA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Japan Securities Dealers Association (JSDA), aiming to strengthen cooperation between them and help develop Bangladesh's capital market.

The agreement, signed on April 9, marks DBA's first formal partnership with an international self-regulatory organisation (SRO), a move seen as a milestone in its efforts to align with global standards.

The MoU was signed by Takashi Hibino, chairman and chief executive officer of JSDA, and Saiful Islam, president of DBA.

Under the agreement, the two organisations will collaborate across a range of areas, including the exchange of regulatory frameworks governing financial investment and capital markets, enhancement of SRO governance and policy structures, and strengthening compliance and supervisory mechanisms.

The partnership will also focus on improving transaction efficiency, fostering innovation in financial instruments and services, and expanding investor education initiatives. Both organisations have agreed to extend cooperation to other mutually agreed areas as needed.

Saiful Islam said the agreement represents a significant step forward for Bangladesh's capital market, adding that collaboration with an experienced SRO like JSDA would help improve market structure, governance, and institutional capacity.

He noted that the partnership is expected to facilitate the adoption of global best practices and contribute to building a more transparent, efficient, and investor-friendly market.

He also expressed optimism that the initiative would help create a more organised and internationally aligned capital market ecosystem in Bangladesh.

The JSDA operates the Asia Securities Forum, a leading regional platform for securities market participants in the Asia-Pacific. DBA has been a member of the forum since 2023 and has been actively participating in its meetings and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
