Dhaka Bank diversifies businesses, CSR activities

Dhaka Bank Ltd (DBL) Sunday launched a savings scheme named 'Joma' for the garment workers.

Bangladesh Bank (BB) governor Dr Atiur Rahman inaugurated the product at a programme arranged at a city hotel on the occasion of DBL's 20th founding anniversary.

The event was attended, among others, by the bank's chairman Reshadur Rahman, its managing director Niaz Habib, directors and senior executives of the bank.

The governor appreciated the bank for launching the savings scheme, dedicated for the garment workers, and taking financial support programme for the poor marking its anniversary.

"Such initiatives will help in establishing financial inclusion and humane banking in the country," the BB governor said.

He expressed the hope that the bank's board of directors and management will play active role in taking more creative initiatives in the future.

Started its operation in 1995, the bank already opened 81 branches, three SME units and Islamic banking window. It employed around 2,600 people.

The bank also has different modern banking services including online banking, credit card, debit card, ATM and POS terminals.

"However, the bank is somewhat lag behind in launching the mobile banking and agent banking activities," said the BB governor.

He expressed his hope that the bank will inaugurate the technology-driven banking services soon.

He also laid stress on taking strong measures by the bank to reduce the rate of its classified loan to 3.0 per cent from 5.0 per cent, and rendering quality services to the customers.

On this occasion, "Personal Social Responsibility (PSR) Office" & "Reconciler Office" was formally launched  under the CSR Programme.

Moreover, financial supports were given to Khulna University & Rotary Community District Hospital, SEID Trust, Dhaka Ahsania Mission Hospital, Centre for Women & Child Care.

Besides Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defense was given a rescue boat along with financial aid to ten families of that institution who died while performing their job.
