Dhaka bourse rebounds, ends three-session losing streak with moderate gains

FE Report | September 12, 2025 00:00:00

The Dhaka bourse closed the week's last session with a moderate rise, breaking the losing streak of the previous three sessions as the majority of stocks closed higher.

DSEX, the broad index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), had lost 2.89 per cent, or 163 points in total, to close at 5,473 on Wednesday.

The DSE opened Thursday's session with volatility following price corrections experienced by large-cap companies. After mid-session, the number of gainers started to appreciate, helping the DSEX exhibit a steady upward trend that sustained until the close.

At the end of the session, the DSEX closed at 5,523 points, rising 0.92 per cent or 50.63 points.

"Although volatility persisted until mid-session, buyers emerged across the board to stabilise the market that reinforced optimism among market participants," said a market review of EBL Securities.

However, investors' participation on Thursday declined significantly as they adopted a cautious stance following sharp falls in the previous three sessions.

On the day, the DSE recorded a turnover of Tk 7.78 billion, 18 per cent less than the previous session. Of the total turnover, Tk 801 million came from transactions executed in the DSE's block board.

Of 401 issues traded, 282 advanced, 54 declined, and 65 remained unchanged.

Blue-chip stocks played a pivotal role in breaking the losing streak. Of 30 blue-chip stocks, 22 advanced, and the DS30 index, comprising such stocks, rose 0.99 per cent or 21 points to close at 2,151 points.

Among the gainers of blue-chip stocks, BRAC Bank advanced 2.23 per cent, City Bank 2.31 per cent, LankaBangla Finance 4.14 per cent, and Robi Axiata 3.29 per cent.

Khan Brothers PP Woven Bag Industries topped the chart of turnover leaders with a value of Tk 277 million, followed by Summit Alliance Port, Robi Axiata, Orion Infusion, and City Bank.

S. Alam Cold Rolled Steels was the number one gainer with a rise of 9.60 per cent to close at Tk 21.70 each.

On the other hand, Peoples Leasing and Financial Services was the worst loser, declining 7.69 per cent to close at Tk 1.20 each on the DSE.
