Agricultural scientist and biotechnologist Dr Md Abdullah Yousuf Akhond has been appointed as the Director General (Routine Charge) of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), says a press release.
Previously, he served as the Director (Research) of BARI, Gazipur.
Dr Akhond started off his career at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute's at Plant Breeding Division, Gazipur, as a scientific officer in 1992. He was subsequently promoted to the rank of Senior Scientific Officer, Principal Scientific Officer and Chief Scientific Officer.
Dr Akhond holds PhD degree with advanced research on gene editing from the University of Dundee, Scotland, UK, and completed his postdoctoral research degree on gene silencing from Science and Advice for Scottish Agriculture (SASA), Scotland, UK.
He has been regularly supervising MS, PhD students of various universities and providing up-to-date guidance on modern research topics to the scientists of the institute.
Dr Akhond is the pioneer of modern biotechnology research at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute. He regularly writes scientific articles for various local and foreign scientific journals. He hails from Madan upazila in Netrakona district.
