The board of directors of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Sunday recalled the contribution of its former president Md. Rakibur Rahman who died of cancer on Friday.
After the memorial meeting held at the DSE office on Sunday, the DSE in a condolence message said that the premier bourse expressed its deep sympathy to the family of late Rahman and prayed for salvation of the departed soul.
The board of the premier bourse has also decided to hold another memorial meeting and Dua Mahfil to be participated by stakeholders of the capital market very soon.
The DSE's late president Rahman obtained membership of the premier bourse in June, 1975. He was involved with the DSE for more than 35 years.
He served the DSE as councillor during 1991-97. He served the premier bourse DSE as its chairman since 1997 to 2000. He also served the premier bourse for a period of 2007-09 as a director, for 2009-10 as president, for 2010-12 as director and for 2012-13 as president.
After the demutualisation of the DSE, Rahman was the director of the premier bourse for two terms during 2016-21.
He was also the founder president of Sheikh Russel Jatiyo Shishu-Kishore Parishad. Rahman completed his masters degree in political science from the University of Dhaka.
Meanwhile, DSE Brokers Association of Bangladesh (DBA) condoled the expiry of Mr Rakibur Rahman.
"He was an investor-friendly member of DSE for many years and his departure is an irreparable loss for the stock market," DBA said in a statement.
