Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) differs with the proposal of the Investment Corporation of Bangladesh (ICB) for bringing back the companies of the over-the-counter (OTC) market in the main market under the 'O' category, officials said.
The state-run corporation Tuesday made the proposal at a meeting held with the premier bourse, saying that the OTC-market companies will be facilitated if the scope of trading is created on the main market.
"But our opinion is that the companies of the OTC market should not be brought to main market unless the problems of those ones are resolved," said DSE Managing Director Dr. Swapan Kumar Bala.
He said many companies of the OTC market have no existence. "We have no objection if a company can come to main market by solving their problems."
He said the DSE has a plan to make vibrant the OTC market through creating the chance of trading the shares of companies which are yet to come to the stock market.
"The OTC market well gets a separate trading board if the automation of new trading software goes live on," Bala added.
He, however, said everything will depend on the discussion with the stakeholders and the securities regulator.
