DSE gains for 3rd session on recovery of 'A' stocks

The Dhaka bourse closed the Monday's session with a moderate gain both in broad index and turnover value riding on investors' increased participation in 'A' category companies.
On the day, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) posted the highest turnover, Tk 4.96 billion, in 12 sessions executed since August 3.
A majority of the companies, except for those stuck at floor prices, advanced on the DSE.
Experts said the appreciation of good companies indicated that the market's dependency on junk shares had started to ebb.
Three blue-chip companies that advanced for the last few sessions are Marico Bangladesh, Berger Paints (Bangladesh) and LafargeHolcim Bangladesh.
The chairman of EDGE Asset Management, Asif Khan said a significant number of retail investors did not consider the fundamental strength of companies before investing in them.
"The price rise of three blue-chip stocks is a sign that the market has started to draw attention of genuine investors," he added.
Of the three companies, Berger Paints (Bangladesh) exhibited an upward trend for the last 12 sessions. The company's share climbed higher by 4 per cent or Tk 65.6 to close at Tk 1,864.7 on Monday.
Marico Bangladesh saw a price increase by 7.43 per cent or Tk 180.9 in the last seven sessions to close at Tk 2,435.1 on Monday.
LafargeHolcim Bangladesh rose 3.44 per cent in the last three sessions and closed at Tk 69.2 on Monday.
Of the other 'A' category companies that gained value in the market included Heidelberg Cement, Reckitt Benckiser (Bangladesh) and Unique Hotel & Resorts.
The market opened the day's session positively and the DSEX, broad index of the stock exchange, continued its upward trend until midsession.
Later, the DSEX lost some points only to rebound and close with a moderate gain of 0.24 per cent, or 26.59 points, to settle at 6,291 points.
Buyers' dominance prevailed throughout the session as optimistic investors grabbed oversold stocks propelling the market's recovery from its gloomy phase, said EBL Securities in a market review.
The DS30 index comprising blue chip securities advanced 0.48 per cent or 10.38 points to close at 2136.65 points.
Of the 325 issues traded, 142 advanced, 27 declined and 156 were unchanged on the premier bourse.
The DSE posted a turnover of Tk 4.96 billion, 44 per cent higher than the previous session.
Like the previous session, Fu Wang Food was the turnover leader with a transaction volume of Tk 395 million, followed by Sonali Paper & Board Mills, Sea Pearl Beach Resort & Spa, and Emerald Oil Industries.
Fu Wang Food and Sonali Paper & Board Mills were also on the chart of top 10 gainers.
Rupali Bank was the number one gainer as it jumped 9.86 per cent while Jute Spinners was the worst loser after declining 4 per cent on Monday.
Miracle Industries was the number two gainer with the stock surging 9.87 per cent following an announcement of recommencement of production by September 30.
The company's operation has remained suspended since July 1, 2022.
