DSE sees mixed performance of major sectors

Dhaka bourse on Tuesday closed marginally higher extending the gaining streak for the second consecutive session amid mixed performance of major sectors.

On the day, investors' participation rose marginally and remained below Tk 8.0 billion mark.

The companies of the miscellaneous sector mostly drew investors' concentration on Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE).

The market operators said investors' participation is yet to be visible as they have adopted cautious stance to observe the overall situation.

Majority number of listed insurers on Tuesday saw price appreciation on the premier bourse DSE.

The market opened the day's session positively and the DSE broad index DSEX continued an upward trend and gained 83 points within the first half an hour.

Soon later, the DSEX started to decline and the trend continued almost till closure.

At the end of the session, the DSEX settled at 6753.78 with a rise of 0.21 per cent or 14.34 points.

The Shariah based index DSES advanced 0.012 per cent or 0.24 points to close at 1453.72.

The DS30 index comprising blue chip securities closed at 2489.96 with a rise of 0.31 per cent or 7.60 points.

Of 377 issues traded, 165 advanced, 166 declined and 46 were unchanged on the premier bourse.

Dhaka bourse on Tuesday posted a turnover of Tk 7.99 billion which was 9.44 per cent higher than the turnover of previous session.

Tuesday's turnover was mainly driven by investors' participation in Beximco.

On the day, the company solely contributed 1.17 billion in market turnover featured by the DSE.

Of total market turnover, Tk 261 million came from transactions executed in block board.

"Bourses ended higher as the investors increased their participation to some extent with a hope of recouping their losses incurred during the last week due to Russia-Ukraine war crisis," said the International Leasing Securities.

Of the sectors which saw price appreciation, engineering advanced 0.2 per cent, general insurance 1.3 per cent, life insurance 1.2 per cent, and services & real estate 1.4 per cent.

Of the sectors which witnessed price correction, financial institutions declined 0.3 per cent, fuel & power 0.5 per cent, and textile 0.4 per cent.

Investors' participation was concentrated mostly on miscellaneous sector which grabbed 21.3 per cent of the market turnover followed by textile 12.9 per cent, pharmaceuticals & chemicals 12.5 per cent and bank 7.2 per cent.

Beximco topped the scrip wise turnover chart with a value of Tk 1.17 billion followed by Bangladesh Shipping Corporation Tk 434 million, Orion Pharma Tk 279 million, Fortune Shoes Tk 196 million and SAIF Powertec Tk 173 million.

Takaful Islami Insurance was the number one gainer with a rise of 9.83 per cent or Tk 6.40 to close at Tk 71.50 each.

Three other insurance companies were also in the chart of the DSE's top 10 gainers.

CASPI, benchmark index of Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), advanced 0.39 per cent or 78.07 points to close at 19719.33.

Of 302 issues traded, 148 advanced, 114 declined and 40 were unchanged and the port-city bourse posted a turnover of Tk 291.95 million on Tuesday.
