Two listed general insurers-Eastland Insurance and Asia Insurance-posted marginal profit growth in 2025, signalling a tentative recovery after years of decline.
Eastland Insurance reported a 3.08 per cent year-on-year rise in profit to Tk 92.27 million in 2025, while Asia Insurance registered a 1.63 per cent increase to Tk 98.38 million.
Both companies also declared 10 per cent cash dividends for 2025, unchanged from the previous year.
Eastland Insurance
Eastland Insurance, a first-generation non-life insurer incorporated in 1986, returned to modest growth in 2025 after experiencing a decline in profit from 2022 to 2024.
The company provides a range of general insurance products, including fire, marine, motor, and engineering coverage.
Its earlier profit erosion was attributed to weak premium income, rising claim settlement pressure, a decline in the market value of investments, and broader macroeconomic challenges. The latest results indicate a partial recovery from those pressures.
The board has recommended a 10 per cent cash dividend for general shareholders, excluding sponsors and directors. Sponsors and directors jointly hold 34.49 million shares, and the total dividend payout to general shareholders will amount to Tk 49.39 million.
The annual general meeting (AGM) will be held on June 29 via a virtual platform, while the record date has been set for June 2.
On Thursday, the share price of Eastland Insurance rose 7.04 per cent to Tk 22.80 on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE).
Asia Insurance
Asia Insurance, incorporated in 2000, also reversed its declining profit trend seen since 2022, posting a slight increase in earnings in 2025.
The insurer also offers a broad range of general insurance services, including fire, marine, motor, engineering, and liability coverage for individuals and businesses.
The company has recommended a 10 per cent cash dividend for the year ended December last year.
Its AGM is scheduled for June 29, which will be held on a digital platform, with June 3 fixed as the record date.
Meanwhile, the share price of the insurer fell 2.19 per cent to Tk 40.20 on Thursday on the DSE.
