Ensuring support for agricultural entrepreneurs and their access to loans on easy terms is the main goal of the central bank, said Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur at a training programme organised by United Commercial Bank (UCB) on Thursday.
He made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the programme titled "Agricultural Entrepreneurs' Assembly and Skills Development Training." Nearly 300 agricultural entrepreneurs participated in the daylong event.
"We want agricultural loans to reach genuine farmers, banking services to become more accessible, and farmers to enjoy more benefits through digital banking," Dr Mansur said.
Agricultural loans serve as one of the most effective solutions for rural development and it is improving the living standards of borrowers, he also said.
Issuing a note of caution, the BB governor said that without sufficient support to farmers, both agricultural production and market systems would be hampered. "Therefore, adequate assistance and loan facilities for agricultural entrepreneurs are essential to strengthen the rural economy," he stressed.
As special guest, UCB Chairman Sharif Zahir said, "We are committed to sustainable agricultural development and empowering agricultural entrepreneurs for a prosperous future of the country".
UCB Managing Director & CEO Mohammad Mamdudur Rashid said, "Our responsibility does not end with disbursing loans; we want entrepreneurs to become self-reliant, successful, and contribute to the nation's economy through training and skills."
