Four indenting firms have bagged the "Best Indentors' Award-2014" for repatriating highest amount of foreign currency during the years 2011-12 and 2012-13.
Bangladesh Indenting Agents' Association (BIAA), a body of foreign companies' agents in Bangladesh, gave the biennial awards to the best performers among all of its about 2,500 member firms.
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, as the chief guest, handed over crests and certificates of the award among the winners at a ceremony in the city.
Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed, president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), and Mrs. Monowara Hakim Ali, first vice present of the apex trade body, were special guests at the function held with BIAA KMH Shahidul Haque in the chair.
Among the award winners, DSM Commodities Ltd garnered the platinum award for repatriating highest amount of foreign currency as indenting commission against its services to the foreign companies.
Welllcot International won the golden award while the silver and bronze awards went to Deys (United Suppliers) Co. Ltd. and Colour Quest Ltd respectively.
Launched in 2012, "Best Indentors' Award" is in the second time this year, BIAA President Mr Haque said. "We will continue the biennial awards in the future."
Appreciating the indenting business and the award programme, Mr Tofail Ahmed said that the indentors are contributing to the growth of foreign exchange reserve in the country by 'exporting' its services.
The indentors are also among those, who are contributing to the growth of gross domestic product (GDP) under the service sector in the country, the commerce minister said.
Mr Ahmed also ruled out any possibility of holding the next national elections before January of 2019. "Creation of political instability will not work."
He rather 'suggested' the opposition parties to create public opinion and hold public rally.
Mr Akram Uddin Ahmed and Mrs. Monowara thanked the BIAA for encouraging its members by giving such awards, and called upon the indenting firms to work hard, take the business forward and contribute more to the national economy.
