Special Tribunal on capital market has fixed Sunday next for receiving further deposition of the case of Chittagong Cement Clinker & Grinding Company (CCCGC) filed after 1996 stock market scam.
Humayun Kabir, judge of the tribunal, fixed the date of receiving deposition.
The witnesses who will give deposition on Sunday are two members of the inquiry committee of 1996 stock market debacle. They are former chairman of the securities regulator Maniruddin Ahamad and Prof ATM Zahirul Huq.
Meanwhile, the chief of the probe committee, Amirul Islam Chowdhury gave deposition on Thursday in the case of CCCGC.
In his deposition Mr Chowdhury, also former vice chancellor of Jahangirnagar University, spoke in favour of their probe report submitted to the commission on March 27, 1997.
The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) filed a case against Rakibur Rahman, a former DSE president, AS Shahudul Huque, a stockbroker, and Abu Tayab for allegedly manipulating share price of the CCCGC in 1996.
The company was later acquired by the Heidelberg Cement Bangladesh Ltd.
Lawyer Mohammad Mohsin Rashid took part in Thursday's argument in favour of Rakibur Rahman, and AS Shahudul Huque.
On the other hand, Khandaker Mahbub Hossain was the lawyer of another defendant Abu Tayab. And Masud Rana Khan was the lawyer of the securities regulator.
Earlier on August 16 last, former executive director of the securities regulator MA Rashid, also the petitioner of the case, gave his deposition in the tribunal.
After the stock market debacle of 1996, the report submitted by Amirul Islam Chowdhury-led inquiry committee said the defendants were the directors of the CCCGC.
"Inspite of SEC's directive to vacate the position they continued to remain as directors. It further appears that SEC inquired about the sale of shares by the company to outsiders (Indians and Iranians) other than through the DSE/CSE," the probe report reads.
It also said that there was no satisfactory reply from the company and the committee was informed that during peak price period there were some price sensitive announcements.
