The government took an initiative to bring all offices of deputy commissioners (DCs) under high speed broadband network connection by next couple of months, sources said.
At present most offices are connected with single line internet connection that is insufficient for uninterrupted efficient activities, especially for sending or downloading of different documents.
Therefore, the government took the decision of fiber optic network connection at the DC offices to give highest internet facilities as part of its digitalisation process.
Already two NTTN operators-Fiber@Home and Summit Communication Ltd (SCL) have been selected for the job. These two operators will give last mile solution to the broadband network coverage as the network service providers (NSPs). Access to Information (A2i) under Prime Minister Office is coordinating the project.
Technology specialist of A2i Arfe Elahi informed the FE Saturday that the two operators will give last mile solution to nearly 30 DC offices, where fiber optic network is absent. He said the operators have presence in 42 districts.
He also said 22 districts--mainly hill tracts and coastal districts are deprived of fiber optics connectivity.
Mr Elahi said the present government is emphasising on leveraging of ICT and trying to make all government offices paperless gradually.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SCL Arif Al Islam said they started network infrastructure development activities across the country. As NSPs, they will reach broadband network connectivity in the DC offices by next two months.
He said other government offices at district level will come under the fiber optic network.
Mr Islam also mentioned that this fiber optics connection will be helpful during national election for rapid data communication.
Head of government affairs of Fiber@Home Abbas Faruque echoed the same. He hoped that they will be able to reach the connectivity to the DC offices soon.
It is mentioned that the two operators took lease of 3600 KM fiber optics line from Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) Limited. Besides, the operators themselves have a large number of fiber optics line across the country.
