FE REPORT | September 26, 2019 00:00:00

An international conference on inclusive insurance for emerging markets will take place in Dhaka in early November.

Some 450 experts from around the world are expected to discuss and identify ways of accelerating growth and economic viability in inclusive insurance for emerging markets.

Munich Re Foundation will host the 15th conference in the city in cooperation with the Bangladesh Insurance Association.

The conference is scheduled for November 5-7.

The Foundation organised the 14th international conference in Zambia in 2018.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to attend the inaugural session as the chief guest.

The BIA disclosed this at a press conference held at its city office.

BIA president Sheikh Kabir Hossain read out the written statement about the matter.

Senior executives of the BIA were also present at the press briefing.

The BIA said the inclusive insurance sector has experienced persistent growth in client outreach and premium volumes over the past 10 years.

The association said today, nearly 300 million low-income citizens in developing countries are covered by an insurance policy.

New technologies are boosting the market coverage.

In Asia alone, the number of people insured through mobile phones exceeds 40 million.

The BIA said nonetheless, many people are still without cover or alternative risk management options.

Representatives from insurance and reinsurance companies, distribution channels, investment funds, international organisations, NGOs, development agencies, as well as academics, policymakers, supervisory regulators, from around 50 countries will attend the conference.

The conference will feature panel discussions on key topics addressing an interdisciplinary audience.

Additional working group sessions will deal in-depth with subtopics.

Interactive sessions hosted by partner organisations on Inclusive Insurance will be a key part of the conference, facilitating dialogue in small groups on emerging issues.

Keynote speeches will look into the latest local and international insights.
