IPP plant starts commercial operation

A new 102 megawatt (MW) furnace oil-fired independent power producer (IPP) plant -- Digital Power & Associates Ltd -- a sister concern of Orion Group, started commercial operation Sunday.

The power plant, located on the bank of the Buriganga river at Gognagar of Narayanganj, successfully began its commercial operation date (COD) Sunday, said a company official.

The plant consists of 12 brand new engines of 20V32 manufactured by globally renowned Wartsila of Finland.

Each engine generates 8.92 MW of electricity totaling generation of 102 MW for the national grid.

The plant auxiliaries include exhaust gas boilers, oil separators, and oil transfer skids have been imported from international renowned manufacturers like Alborg, West Felia, IMO etc, which will help protect environment with minimum emissions.
