Jakarta looks to sign PTA with Dhaka

Thrust on two countries' business-to-business and private sector’s cooperation

CHATTOGRAM, Sept 05: Indonesia will sign Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) with Bangladesh soon, chargé d'affaires of Indonesia in Bangladesh Hidayat Atjeh said in the port city on Sunday.

The Indonesian diplomat made the remarks during a meeting with president of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) Mahbubul Alam at the hall room of CCCI's World Trade Centre (WTC) in the morning.

Lauding Bangladesh's progress in different fields, including innovation of Covid-19 vaccine, Mr Hidayat Atjeh viewed that there were vast scopes to enhance business-to-business cooperation among the private sectors of the two brotherly countries.

"The private sector's intimacy may enhance the cooperation among both countries. The communication system should be upgraded to develop the relationship between two friendly nations. The two countries can work together to develop the trade and business," he said, adding "Indonesia will sign Preferential Trade Agree-ment (PTA) with Bangladesh soon."

He admired Bangla-desh's success in limiting the spread of the COVID-19 and achievement in vaccinating its people, and expressed his gratitude to Bangladesh for the country's help during the coronavirus outbreak.

CCCI chief Mahbubul Alam chaired the meeting.

CCCI senior vice president Tarafdar Ruhul Amin, directors Sayed Mohammed Tanvir, Md Ahid Seraj Chowdhury Swapon, Jahirul Islam Chowdhury Alamgir, Anjan Shekhor Das, Shahjada Md Foujul Alef Khan, Engineer Iftekhar Hossain, Md Iftekhar Doisal and Tanvir Mostafa Chowdhury were present at the meeting.

Besides, third secretary of the Embassy of Indonesia Sapta N. Dananjaya was also present at the meeting.
