JS body for raising BIWTC capital from share market

The 6th meeting of the parliamentary standing committee on shipping ministry met at the parliament complex on Wednesday and discussed ways and means of reducing maritime accidents, reports BSS.
The Jatiya Sangsad (JS) committee also suggested listing of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) in the country's capital market to raise its capital.
The meeting was presided over by chairman of the committee Major (retd) Rafiqul Islam, Bir Uttam. Others who were present included secretary of the committee, Shipping Minister Md Shajahan Khan, Md Abdul Hai, Md Habibur Rahman, Ranjit Kumar Roy, Md Anwarul Azim (Anar) and Momtaz Begum Advocate.
The meeting suggested identifying the accident-prone spots, preventing such incidents and taking post-accident measures. It also suggested taking appropriate measures for proper utilisation of the BIWTC's unutilised land.
