Ten firms grab 30pc of transactions on DSE

Ten most-traded firms accounted for 30 per cent of transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Wednesday, with LafargeHolcim Bangladesh dominating the turnover chart.

The multinational cement maker topped the prime bourse's turnover list after almost two months as investors showed their buying interest on its shares, said a leading broker.

According to data available with the DSE, some 12.47 million Lafarge-Holcim shares were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 974 million, which was 5.50 per cent of the day's total turnover.

The total turnover stood at Tk 20.05 billion on the prime bourse, which was 13 per cent higher than the previous day's tally of Tk 17.69 billion.

The company's share closed at Tk 79 each on Wednesday, rising 5.76 per cent over the previous day. Its share price jumped 25 per cent or Tk 15.50 each in the last one month.

The company's consolidated earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 1.87 for January-June 2022 as against Tk 1.85 for January-June 2021.

Listed in 2003, the company disbursed 25 per cent cash dividend for the year ended on December 31, 2021. In 2020, it provided a 10 per cent cash dividend.

Beximco came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 745 million changing hands. The company's share price shed 0.84 per cent to close at Tk 118.30 on Wednesday.

Bangladesh Shipping Corporation clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 664 million changing hands. The state-run corporation's share closed at Tk 144.10 on Wednesday, rising 3.52 per cent over the previous day.

Orion Pharma notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 608 million changing hands. The drug maker's share price dropped 1.58 per cent to close at Tk 105.60.

Turnover of Makson Spinning Mills was Tk 517 million. The company's share closed at Tk 30.10, rising 4.88 per cent over the previous day.

Eastern Housing featured a turnover of Tk 417 million. Its share continued to rise and closed at Tk 92.20 on Wednesday, rising 5.37 per cent further.

The company's share jumped 64 per cent or Tk 36 each in a month despite no price sensitive information.

The turnover of Malek Spinning Mills was Tk 397 million. The company's share shed 4.63 per cent to close at Tk 41.20 on Wednesday.

National Polymer featured a turnover of Tk 346 million. The company's share closed at Tk 64.90, soaring 4.68 per cent over the previous day.

The turnover of Delta Life Insurance was Tk 341 million. The life insurer's share advanced 1.32 per cent.

Intraco Refueling Station also made its way to the day's top turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 293 million changing hands.
